For millennia the forces of the Sajugtachet Nation have traveled from one inhabited planet to the next, conquering and then subjugating each in turn. Each planet left behind was occupied by forces charged with the task of stripping the planet of its resources and stockpiling them, awaiting the return of the main force, three thousand years in the future. This included the descendants of those who were conquered. They were genetically modified, cybernetically enhanced, and programmed to obey and fight for their masters, all so the cycle could repeat itself on the next planet ready for harvesting.
The Sajugtachet Nation had never known defeat until it attempted to conquer the people of Tersonis Eht Miho, and for fifty of that planet's years they warred and failed to succeed. Eventually, the Sajugtachet Nation gave up its attempts at conquering Tersonis and it left the battered planet behind, seeking easier prey. It never occurred to the leaders of the Sajugtachet Nation that the warriors of Tersonis Eht Miho might take the fight to them.
Now, a hundred years after the end of the 'Jugger War', nearly twenty Emancipation missions have gone to conquered planets with the intention of taking them back from the Sajugtachet forces holding them. Some missions have failed, but the majority have succeeded. The Gethean Pashar forces have found the proper formula for dealing with a planet full of unimaginative Armies caught up in their own internecine battles. Send a small force of Knights, specially designed to take on hundreds of enemies at a time and, not only survive, but win. Have the Knights dig in, let each Army grind itself to dust on the small force of Knights, consolidate their holdings, and let the next Army come in and repeat the process. It had worked many times before, and if the occupying forces of Hoda'Dyeen were as predictably dogmatic as those on the other worlds had been, then the formula would work here, as well.
But things don't always go as planned, as rookie Knight, Ari Ben'cho would soon discover. The idealistic young Knight wished for nothing more than to have a hand in the liberation of his ancestral home-world, but sometimes fate has its own plans. Sometimes the path you set your feet to is harder than you anticipated, but sometimes, the reward at the end of that path is greater. If, that is, you can survive the journey.

Good read. A cross of SCI-fi, magic, and ET beings. Campy dialog like Star wars. Not sure why a change and explanation of alien terms was really necessary when the rest of the books used English colloquialisms. Fun still and worth a read.
