Explorers in a hot-air balloon land on an island, figuring that they must be the only inhabitants. However, they discover a bullet inside a wounded animal--one which must have been fired within the previous three months.
The men propose to build a canoe so they can survey the island in search of other human life. Many adventures follow, one after another. They find a large chest filled with provisions and tools. Setting off in search of who might have left the chest, the travelers make their way through the Mercy River to the sea. During their trek, the men find remnants of the balloon they arrived in. Back at camp (Granite House) they find their ladder to the house has been removed--by invading orangutans. Soon the animals are defeated, except for one, whom they tame to become a house servant. The men construct a bridge over the river. They protect their abode by surrounding it on all sides with water. They undertake projects to make their colony habitable and comfortable. They create a hydraulic lift to replace the ladder. They build a seagoing boat for further exploration. Eventually they discover another human on Tabor Island, bringing him back to their now-well-stocked colony.

The book, one of the most brilliant writers Jules Verne's "Mysterious island", made me a very strong impression. From the first lines, the author takes the reader into my amazing and full of adventure world in a balloon, accompanied by a small group of heroes. Each of them individually. Their knowledge, taken together, help them not just to adapt to the existence of this pathetic piece of land and live perfectly on it. Each Chapter of this fantastic story impregnated incredible adventures lurking dangers, loyal friendship and the incredible amount of scientific knowledge. After reading this book you can learn how to make soap, to make dynamite, battery Becquerel and much more. Of course, the author does not give the exact recipes, but to read about this very interesting! And the unexpected ending of the book will not leave disappointed none of the reader. If you love adventure, then this book is for you, and most importantly for your children!!!This book is part of a trilogy "The Mysterious island", it also includes Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and In Search of the Castaways.

Part of a series. Like his style and way of telling a tale. Let's you be right in the action.
This adventure is part of the Lincoln Island trilogy. I recommend beginning with 80 days in a balloon, then on to thetrilogy, mysterious island, abandoned, and secret of the island.
The best thing about this book is there are so many descriptions of life on the island and what the castaways did to create a society that you could read it in bits and pieces and not miss much.
The worst thing about the book is it left too many open questions. I'm guessing it's part of a series? It doesn't say so at the end so it's something I'll have to look up on the Internet.
Then again, I don't think I care enough about the characters to bother.
